Types of courses
Dutch and English language and culture programmes
We organise individual/group trainings for people with different professional
backgrounds such as managers, medical specialists, nurses, mechanical
engineers, art students etc.). Each training is focussed on their specific
needs ( meetings, business conversation/contact with colleagues, superiors,
writing reports, customer-service etc.) and adapted to their language level,
which we discuss during an intake
We also organise special language programmes for expats, their partners
and children.
When you contact Taalbureau Symbol, Jeannette Smulders will advise you.
She is a native speaker of Dutch and has studied English Language and
Literature at The Free University of Amsterdam. She started her own
language institute in 1990.
Taalbureau Symbol works together with both businesses and organisations such as:
Language courses on different levels
Learn to speak English or Dutch fluently
During an intake we will discuss the
specific language problems and
needs of a student (an employee
working for a company, for example,
may have problems communicating
with customers or colleagues). Then
we will advise a language programme
and discuss this with his employer.
Taalbureau Symbol offers both individual language courses and courses for small (3 - 4) or larger (6 - 8) groups.
An intensive course (20 – 30 hours a week) is suitable for people who want to reach a basic level within a short period of
time especially if limited time is available.
A flexible programme (once a week – 2 hours) is desired if students prefer to learn the language gradually. During the week
they can put into practice what they have learnt in class and also discuss problems/situations that they come across during
the week both socially and professionally.
The number of hours necessary for a basic knowledge is 30 – 40 hours, with a follow-up of another 30 - 40 hours.
Courses focussed on specific skills (telephoning, writing reports, negotiating, meetings etc.) take 15 - 20 hours.
